Awards & Scholarships

For the last ten years SJHS has participated in the Scholastic Art and Writing Award shows. In this time, over 1,500 works have been submitted for show, winning over 100 Gold Key awards. The visual arts program has also won seven National Scholastic Awards and one American Visions Awards presented in New York City. Our students also participate in local shows and events sponsored by our ISD, City of St. Joseph, Krasl Art Center, Kalamazoo Institute of Art and The Box Factory for the Arts.

At St. Joseph High School, students may work to create a junior or senior portfolio. These portfolios are also submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and to the College Board as an Advanced Placement Portfolio. Portfolios are also created to earn college scholarships and also internships. Because of these rigorous efforts our SJHS students have earned over $1.2 million in college scholarship opportunities in the last ten years from institutions such as Columbia College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Michigan, Art Institutes (AI), Kendall, Alma College, Pratt, And College of Creative Studies, etc.

Our visual arts teachers welcome you to visit our classroom and experience what it is like to be a St. Joe Bear in the visual arts!
